Former two-time Cerritos Mayor Mark Pulido is running to return trusted leadership to the Cerritos City Council.
The Cerritos resident of 52 years and retired government executive served Cerritos honorably for 19 years from 2001-2020. Pulido started his elected public service career at the age of 32 as the youngest member of the ABC Unified School Board of Education, serving three terms including as Board President in 2007-2008. He was elected to the Cerritos City Council in 2011 with the most votes in city history and re-elected in 2015, serving as Cerritos Mayor twice in 2014-2015 and 2018-2019. Due to term limits, his term ended on April 1, 2020. After five years, Pulido is eligible to return to the council to serve his hometown and make it safer, stronger and better for future generations.
A proud second-generation Filipino American, son of immigrant community builders, and grandson of WWII veterans, Mark is humbled and honored to continue his family’s legacy of service and leadership for the community. Pulido and his wife Gloria grew up in Cerritos. Mark graduated with honors from Whitney High School. He then earned his bachelor's degree in History and Asian
American Studies from the University of California, Los Angeles, where he served as UCLA Student Body President, UCLA Samahang Pilipino President and Editor-in-Chief of “Pacific Ties,” the nation’s oldest collegiate Asian Pacific newsmagazine. After earning his Master of Public Policy degree from The University of Chicago as a Woodrow Wilson National Fellow, Mark and Gloria chose to raise their family in Cerritos – one of the safest, prosperous and dynamic communities in America. Mayor Pulido will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that the promise of opportunity remains strong for all Cerritos families, now and for years to come.
Professionally, Pulido worked nearly three decades in local, state and federal government, as Assembly Consultant to the California Speaker, State Senate District Director, and most recently as District Chief of Staff to Congressman Alan Lowenthal (Ret.). California Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. appointed Mark to serve on the California Volunteers Commission from 2013 to 2017, the Board of Directors of the California Science Center and Exposition Park from 2017 to 2019, and the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum Commission from 2017 to 2019.
As a seasoned Councilmember, Pulido engaged with his colleagues and stakeholders to solve problems with compassion and common sense as demonstrated by his track record of accomplishments.
During Pulido’s tenure on the council, Mayor Pulido is widely credited with helping spur economic growth for Cerritos, havingapproved Cerritos Auto Square renovations and new business developments that brought 85°C Bakery, In-N-Out, Nordstrom Rack, Harkins Theaters, Cheesecake Factory, and many other businesses to town.
Mayor Pulido is proud of his record of improving the quality of life for our diverse residents. He helped establish the Teen Studio atthe Cerritos Library, approved new residential developments that attracted new residents to the city, and cut the ribbon on the new
Kaiser Permanente Medical Office Building.

Mayor Pulido believes our community can accomplish a lot when we work together. And feels Cerritos has a unique opportunity to seize this moment to move our community forward.
